Editorial: Raise awareness about sexual assault, Rape Crisis services – Carroll County Times
At first blush, learning that the number of individuals served by the nonprofit Rape Crisis Intervention Service of Carroll County has dropped by nearly a third in recent years would seem like a good thing. It’s possible the number of sexual assault victims in the county has dropped. It’s just not probable.
From 2008 through 2012, Rape Crisis served nearly 300 individuals each fiscal year, July through June, according to statistics provided by CEO Janice Kispert. But between FY12 and FY13, the number of individuals served dropped from 290 to 146. The number increased slightly to about 200 in fiscal years 14 and 15.
